On the occasion of Earth Day, Lorenzo Di Ciaccio, Founder of Ridaje, a start-up forming part of the national circuit “I custodi del bello” (Custodians of Beauty), described a project focusing on the integration of homeless people, giving them the opportunity to train and work as urban gardeners.
14.000 homeless people live in Rome; 34% have been homeless for more than 5 years, mainly because they cannot get a job. On the other hand, Rome has the equivalent of about 6,000 football fields in public green areas, which is taken care of by just 164 gardeners: over 90% of these areas are not tended.
